Hi there, I am Sofia
Project leader. Parent. Expat residing in Lisbon, Portugal.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What started as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Portugal wasn’t on the original roadmap. As with many expat relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far greater.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, routines, and expectations. Daily tasks seemed more complex than they ought to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and plenty of learning on the job. Yet gradually routines took shape. We found spots that suited us, connected with other families, and began to create something that felt steady.
Why I Built BeyondBorders Family
Most online guidance was either corporate relocation tips or superficial tourism content. What was lacking was a candid, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical advice drawn from real life in Portugal.
What This Site Does (And Doesn't)
This site is:
- Hands-on experience from life in Portugal
- Centered on family life and day-to-day realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site is NOT:
- Not a tourism-authority resource
- Not a sponsored-review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in Portugal goes on, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep recording what we find.
If you have questions about family life in Lisbon or anywhere in Portugal, please feel free to reach out.
Best regards,
Sofia
